Breakfast Club – The Ageless Generation: Segmenting Baby Boomers

Age isn’t what it used to be. According to population trends, Americans are living longer. By 2050, the projected number Americans over the age of 65 will be 81 million, up from 37 million in 2005. The Baby Boomer generation has changed our country in every stage of their lives, and will continue to do so as they reach retirement.

Baby Boomers represent a key segment of most arts audiences, and their participation, or lack there of, can have a great impact on arts organizations. Understandably then, arts marketers have a vested interest in reaching out to Baby Boomers. The challenge is that Baby Boomers cannot be defined by birth year alone. They are a generation of individuals who vary greatly in back ground, education, income, and tastes in the arts.
